The Driver

Sometimes called the 1 wood, the driver is the club many golfers use off the tee on long holes (par 4s and 5s). That's because it is the club that goes the furthest if you hit it right. Most drivers come in different loft angles - the higher the loft, the higher in the air the ball will go.

All of our drivers are made from titanium. Titanium allows club heads to be made larger than their steel equivalents; heads will be lighter without losing any strength. Just because a head is larger does not mean that the ball will go further, but it does make it easier to hit.

Other Woods

Most of our Other Woods (often called Fairway Woods) are available in 3, 5 and 7 wood versions. Like irons, the higher the club number, the higher in the air the ball will go and, generally, the shorter the distance that will be achieved.

Many golfers also choose to hit these clubs from the tee since they will normally go straighter than a driver, if not as far.

Irons

Irons are available from a 3 iron to a 9 iron. They are normally used on the tee at par 3s or to approach the green from the fairway. Again, the higher the number, the higher the ball will go in the air and the shorter the distance it will travel.

Different types of iron head are better suited to players of different abilities. For a beginner, a large headed iron with a large cavity back will make it easier for the player to get the ball in the air and hit it consistently. For better players, a club with a smaller cavity will often allow them to work the ball from side to side in the air - something many less able golfers don't need to worry about!

As you read the descriptions of our different iron heads you will see which kind of club we think best suit different golfers.

Wedges

Most players will have a pitching wedge and sand wedge in their bag. The pitching wedge is used when getting closer to the green (shots of up to about 120 yards away from the pin). The sand wedge is used either to get out of a sand bunker or for shots from about 85 yards or closer.

We also offer wedges that can be used for other lengths of shot. The gap wedge has a loft between that of the pitching wedge and the sand wedge and is ideal for shots of between about 85 and 100 yards. The lob wedge hits the ball very high and is good for shots of under 50 yards where a gentle landing is desired.

Putters

You will find that you take a lot of shots on and around the green using you putter - you will use it more than any other club in the bag. Most golfers get through many different putters in their life as they try to find the perfect one for them! We offer a comprehensive range of different styles, each with their own attractions.

Utility Clubs

In the last few years one of the most significant additions to golf club design has been the introduction of utility clubs. They combine the ease of hitting fairway woods with the accuracy of long irons. Many people have replaced their 2, 3, and 4 irons with an easier to hit utility club.

Grips

The importance of choosing the right grip shouldn't be underestimated when buying a set of golf clubs. Choosing the right grip will give you additional confidence when you stand over the golf ball. Many clubs at the budget end of the market are made with cheap grips of inferior material and construction. They are often not consistent in shape or weight and will lose their Ôfeel' after a few months.

At 14clubs we only offer grips of the finest quality like those you would find on a set of clubs that the pros play with. We use Lamkin, Winn and Golf Pride - the three most respected names in grips anywhere in the world. Our standard is the Lamkin Crossline, it is the most popular style used by today's branded golf club manufacturers due to its long lasting texture and consistency.

Grips come in different sizes, depending on the size of your hands. When you customise your golf clubs at 14clubs, we will help you choose the size which is exactly right for you.

Shaft Types

Most pros believe that the golf shaft is the most important component in any club. Get it right and you will consistently produce shots that go the right distance and in the right direction.. Get it wrong and hitting a good shot will be a much bigger challenge.

For the last 30 years True Temper has set the benchmark for the best iron shafts in the business and we use these as the steel shaft of choice in our clubs - just like the pros. We have a range of these from a basic shaft, perfect for the beginner, to the highest quality available on the market today.

Our graphite shafts are also used by pros. on a daily basis. We offer the top brands such as UST and Graffaloy, safe in the knowledge that they offer you simply the best quality in the business.

14clubs.com believes that using a quality shaft is vital to getting the most out of your clubs. Other manufacturers will often save money by using a cheaper shaft which simply does not meet the standard you demand - we don't.

Steel Shaft vs Graphite

Irons
Most players choose to use steel shafts for their irons. This is because steel shafts are usually more accurate than graphite with a better consistency and feel. However, if you are not getting the distance you would like with your existing irons moving to graphite can often make sense. Many ladies and seniors have a graphite shaft in their irons since it can be easer for players with slower swings to hit them further.

Drivers/Woods
Often players choose to have graphite shafts for their woods. Graphite is lighter for these longer shafted clubs and the quality shafts we use are second to none, ensuring you get a maximum distance without sacrificing accuracy.

For those who prefer to use steel shafts in their woods we offer the True Temper Dynamic Gold as standard. This shaft is ideal for players wanting the accuracy of a steel shaft with good distance.

Shaft Flex

Many players will use regular flex shafts for their whole golfing life, often not realising what a difference a custom fitted shaft can make. When you choose your clubs at 14clubs.com we will help you choose the shaft flex which is just right for you.

Simply put, for a player who has a faster swing speed and hits the ball further, a stiffer flex will be more accurate than a regular or more flexible shaft. For players who struggle to get the distance they would like or who have a slower swing, a more flexible shaft is ideal.

Many of our shafts come in varying flexes and we will ensure you choose the one best suited to your swing.

Length and Lie

There is a standard length for our clubs for men and women which you will see when you go to select your clubs. However, if you are 6 foot 5 you should be using clubs which are longer than if you are 5 foot tall! At 14clubs.com we can customise you clubs so they are exactly the right length for somebody of your height. Simply choose to customise your clubs and you will be able to make them just right for you.

We are also able to change the lie of your clubs. For example, if you have long arms but are quite short then the club head will be too upright and will cause the ball to fly off to the left. If you have the opposite build and clubs which are too flat for you, you will find a tendency for the balls to go to the right. By entering in a couple of measurements into our customisation engine we can build the clubs perfect for you. And don't forget, if they aren't totally right we will change them for no cost or give you your money back.
